En janvier 1984 et début février, plusieurs violentes tempêtes ont apporté sur la côte ouest du département de la Manche de nombreux cadavres (par exemple le 29 janvier sur 4 km au Bec d'Andaines/50, 11 mouettes tridactyles et 1 mergule) . La presse rapporte le bilan du GONm mi-février: 2300 cadavres recensés par les ornithos de Carolles au cap de la Hague! (la Manche libre du 12/02/84) Il y a des points de "collecte" dont un ici à l'adresse des frères Sagot à Coutainville (voir document suivant). Un peu plus tard, François et Philippe Sagot publieront un premier bilan faisant état de 3907 oiseaux dont 2316 tridactyles (Données extraites du Petit Cormoran n°28 de mai 1984).
